Why I Love Naps

I’m so grateful to have seen this infographic here.

It’s really amazing how much a nap does for me.  Tina’s common rebuttal to any irritability I’m displaying is, “Drew, go take a nap.”

75% of the time, she’s right (20% of the time, she needs to tell me, “Drew, go eat a sandwich or something”).

5% of the time, I’m legitimately upset.

Either way, I’ve found one of the most productive daily offices I can have midday comes in the form of a nap.  This point reminds me of a sermon this summer from my good friend Rich.

Perhaps we need to be sleep-trained as adults?  Yes, I say.

Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.
It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives to his beloved sleep.

—Psalm 127:1-2

  1. Love this. It is a dream of mine to have a hammock in my office some day. =)

  2. I wish we had siestas in NYC!

  3. for reals, bro. when we were in east asia, i remember how sweet it was to have siestas midday. NYC might become a softer, nicer place if that happened.
